December 2012 – Doomsday
Well, it’s December 1st of 2012, and the Mayan predicted doomsday apocalypse of total global Armageddon is a mere 19 days away. Maybe it will be the rouge planet Nibir-whatever, or a massive geomagnetic polar shift, or the LHC could generate a black hole, or maybe some military bio-plague will unleash the much-memed zombie apocalypse. Who knows. But I do know that the most likely thing that will happen on December 21, 2012 is that it will simply be a Friday and a Winter Solstice (that’s my prediction, as prognosticated by a thorough analysis of the calendar near my desk).
I hold little hope that on December 22nd, 2012, all this nonsense talk about doomsday will finally settle down — but history has shown that there will always be people predicting one doomsday or another. If you are among those concerned by this doomsday silliness, please listen to the sagely word of Neil deGrasse Tyson.
And Don Yeomans of JPL also gives us afew good debunkings:
If you want more, check out more of what NASA has to say, or at Space.com, or the 2012Hoax.com web site itself.
Of course, if you’re just not sure what to do, you could always throw a Doomsday Party and just have a good time.
