A New Hubble Deep Field
NASA has released some new Hubble deep field images (apparent done in conjunction with Spitzer), which once again goes to show that, in the immortal words of Douglas Adams, space is big… really big. These images show a vast number of galaxies (every point of light is, in fact, a galaxy) and the ones that are circled in the images are about 13.2 billion light years away. That’s about 77,596,197,490,000,000,000,000 miles (give or take 10,000,000,000,000 miles).

You can read more about it on the press release, and astronomer Phil Plait has also has an article on the infant galaxies as well.
